On 16h October, Brent Council will make a decision on whether to accept or reject a planning application to demolish the existing Cricklewood Library building and replace it with 10 flats.
A community hub would be provided in the basement potentially to be used as a library, although there is no guarantee that the hub would be able to be solely used as a library.
As many residents will know, a vibrant local group, The friends of Cricklewood Library, have been maintaining a pop up library outside the building since its closure and its popularity shows how much the library is missed. Given the scale of library closures across Brent, the need for a library service for books as well as for community events is higher than it has ever been.
We are collecting signatures across Cricklewood to oppose this development because we believe that the community space is not adequate to house a decent library service and we also want to ensure that any development of Cricklewood Library is for the benefit of local people
